Lovella Romine, 94 year old resident of Shattuck, Oklahoma, died December 26, 2010 at the Shattuck Nursing Home. Lovella Maxine Karn was born to Milroy and Marguerite Karn on February 3rd, 1916 at home on the family farm, located in the Chaney/Catesby area, 12 miles North of Shattuck.
At the age of five, following the death of their mother, Lovella and brother Willard went to love with their grandparents, H.W. and Sarah Karn, where they attended Mt. Hope Country School. As a teenager, she moved to town to attend Shattuck High School, where she graduated.
In 1934, Lovella married Joe Taylor. To this union, two children were born, Robert Lee and Joella Marguerite.
In 1947, Lovella married Henry Romine. To this union one child was born, David Willard.
Henry and Lovella were married 57 years and made their home in Shattuck.
In Lovella's early years of marriage she was a homemaker. Later, she worked for Best Way Foods, Shattuck National Bank, and then as the Insurance Clerk for Newman Memorial Hospital until she retired.
Lovella enjoyed cooking, and was an excellent seamstress. She was an award-winning quilter and was also proficient in crochet and knitting. She loved to do almost any type of crafts, including ceramics. Give her a fishing pole and she was happy.
Lovella was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but the most important person in her life was Jesus Christ. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shattuck, where she served many years and was the oldest member. Lovella loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to evangelists such as Dr. Charles Stanley and Billy Graham, making notes on their different sermons when possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, brother Willard and daughter Joella.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Taylor and wife Bobbie, of Claremore, Ok; David Romine and wife Ounderia of Shattuck, Ok; one stepson Melvin Romine of Woodland, Tx; Two brothers: Hayden Karn and wife Mammie of Vici, Ok; Roland Karn and wife Nyla of Moore, Ok; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma with Pastor Kenneth Platte officiating. Music was provided by organist Bonnie Shepherd, pianist David Romine, and vocal soloist Kellie Flaherty. Kellie sang two of Lovella's favorites, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" & "In the Garden". Casketbearers were Don Shepherd, Richard Oblander, David King, Gary Miller, Dustin Miller, Justin Romine, Neal Colbert and Terry Taylor. Interment was in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery, Shattuck, Ok, with the Mason Funeral Home in Shattuck, Ok in charge of arrangements.
